Emergency Hormonal Contraception
Emergency hormonal contraception, often referred to as the “morning-after pill,” is available from our pharmacy with or without a prescription.
The emergency contraceptive pill works best when taken as soon as possible after unprotected sex, but it can be taken up to 72 hours afterwards. For maximum effectiveness, earlier use is recommended.
We will never ask about the circumstances that led you to seek contraception. However, our pharmacist will ask a few general medical questions to ensure that emergency hormonal contraception is safe and suitable for you.
Emergency hormonal contraception is very safe and is not associated with serious side effects. If it does not work and pregnancy occurs, there is no evidence to suggest it will harm the pregnancy or the developing baby.
How does the service work?
If you require advice on emergency hormonal contraception, you can speak to our pharmacist either in person or by phone.
This will be followed by a discreet and confidential consultation in our private Consultation Room.
If the pharmacist determines that the treatment is appropriate and safe, emergency hormonal contraception can be supplied.
